Florence is a single mother of five who is also caring for her orphaned nephew. Her husband left the family years ago and is not supporting them. Florence is blind in one eye after an accident many years ago and is a cancer survivor. Her mud home caved in due to flooding and was no longer habitable. The family moved into a small temporary shelter on her property and the children had to leave every evening to sleep at the homes of nearby relatives.
Shepherd’s Heart, in partnership with the local church, built Florence and her family a permanent home and furnished it. The photo above shows Florence’s children along with the neighbors. The landscape is the view from her new home.
